What is progress? Where are we headed? This lamp is a reflection of hope, illuminating a transition to our new future. The Ash tree used was killed by the emerald ash borer. This beetle traveled here from north Asia, and has destroyed a whole species of tree from North America permanently affecting the American wilderness. One of the many unintended consequences of mass consumerism is the death of this tree. By illuminating the decay of this once strong species, I hope to shine a light onto a way out. A transition to local craft compared to mass commercialization. If we don’t shine a light on it now, we will be like this tree slowly rotting from the inside out.
Salvaged wood from a fallen rotted Ash tree, Roughly 24” dia and 6” thick. The Tree was killed by the emerald ash borer. I impregnated the rotted wood with acrylic resin and craved the Lamp to shape. 3000K LED (90+ CRI) tape with acrylic diffusers.
